Box assembly with its leather covered base. Off cuts from corner posts are taped back on to square up the clamps. Take the phone off the hook and apply glue to mortice and tenons. Slide in base, align and clamp sides, check for square with rule or squaring rods and then breathe a sigh of relief. Leave well alone for 24 hrs! |

A range of my work at Marlborough Creative Artisan’s Shop in Picton. The Co-Operative shop is very busy at this time of the year with Cruise Ship passengers, tourists passing through between the Islands and people buying presents for Christmas! A good range of Art & Crafts all carefully made right here in Marlborough… not many shops can say that these days!
During the Garden Marlborough Weekend, I will be showing a selection of my work at the Blenheim Anglican Church as part of their Joy to You Hari Nui Ki a Koe exhibition.
There will be various local arts and crafts on display as well as activities for the whole family over the weekend. I have recently finished the large craftwork box. After making sure that everything fitted just right, I assembled the box - never an easy process! Then came the sanding, working through an ever finer series of grits to give a lovely smooth finish.
I then applied two coats of Danish oil which was allowed to cure for ten days before the final two coats of wax polish to add that silky feel. The finished work box is a good size with plenty of storage space over two levels.
